Parents are the key to a child’s success at school

The defining factor for success is their self-belief

Our philosophy is that every student can be top their school in mathematics, (or any other subject). The defining factor for success at school is their self-belief.

Maxwell Maltz (1960) wrote “Psycho Cybernetics” in which he developed the theory that each person “creates” themselves faithful to the image that they have in their subconscious mind. Parents are often the most persuasive influence in helping children grow their own image.

For children to success at school, parents are the key to changing that self-image and Master Coaching’s philosophy is based on this elemental truth

Parents who are totally supportive of their children give them the best chance of success, not only at school, but also in life. Whatever parents believe about their child’s ability is most often reflected in that child’s performance. Comments such as: “I was no good at school and I don’t expect that my son/daughter will be any better than I was”, produce self-fulfilling prophecies.

Parents of successful children are generally those who have supported, mentored and praised their children. Surprisingly, the first part of this process is listening. Dr Stephen Covey in his celebrated work “Seven Habits of Highly Successful People” affirmed that if you wanted to be understood, and then first you must listen first to those you seek to give understanding.

A parent cannot advise their child unless they understand their child’s present situation. Active listening provides that understanding and allows opportunities to offer real and genuine praise.

The philosophy of Master Coaching

Many years of teaching and coaching have confirmed that children’s academic success is almost unlimited, but it is linked to their self-image as explained in Maltz’s ‘Psycho-Cybernetics’. Parents are the key to changing that self-image and Master Coaching’s philosophy is based on this elemental truth.
