There is an old proverb: “Give a person a fish, feed them for a day; teach them to fish feed them for life”.
Education, like fishing, is the gift that keeps on giving.
There are many gifts that you can give your children, some last years; others don’t survive beyond the first day. Education, like fishing, is the gift that keeps on giving. The analogy between fishing and education extends beyond the obvious. A fishing line is of no use if given to a person who does no use it. Similarly, the value is education is the use to which it has been applied. In Australia, we are lucky because we have universal education, there is no need to give anyone in Australia the gift of education; is there? If only that were true!
How often do we hear of students with ‘falling grades’, or parents lament that their child ‘hates school’ and he/she is totally unmotivated. These are not exceptions, but are frequently the norm in most schools and communities. How then do you give the gift of ‘education’?
Master Coaching Australia – How Children Learn
Many years ago, the founder of Master Coaching wrote an article on “How Children Learn”, which was a humble attempt to explain the process of how student are motivated to learn and value education. Over the years this small article has been refined to include empirical and measured observations, and to reflect the latest research relevant to this construct. A free copy of that article is freely available on Master Coaching Australia.
At Master Coaching we not only focus on the education of the students but also obtaining a deeper understanding of their motivations which helps us to provide a more relevant and useful coaching experience for our students.
